After decades in the industry, one would think that Chris Rock’s material and bits would become repetitious and ordinary in an era where new standup comics are coming out with fresh material. However, Rock’s recent Grammy and NAACP nominations just prove that he’s still at the forefront of the standup scene even at fifty-seven years of age. In 2019, Rock was nominated for Best Comedy Album at the 61st Grammy Award for Chris Rock: Tambourine. The standup show received 100% approval ratings from Rotten Tomatoes. USA Today wrote that
“Tamborine is rife with political humor and pointed observations on race in Rock's usual style, but the special is mostly about Rock himself, a self-reflective piece in which he owns up to his mistakes.”

His recent guesting at Saturday Night Live also received a nomination from the National Advancement Association of Colored People (NAACP). Rock was a guest on the last episode of Saturday Night Live Season 46. The show featured some past sketches when Rock surprised the show’s producers with a monologue. The opening was the show’s longest for the year, running for about seven minutes, but producers and viewers were not complaining as Rock’s return was very much welcomed.
